Donation Provides Life-Saving Services in South Africa
Western is a big proponent in giving back, especially in these unprecedented times. As the novel coronavirus continues to spread across the globe, we are raising awareness for another virus that has been fought for decades – HIV/AIDS. Each year in South Africa, more children become victims of this pandemic. We are honored to join Children’s Emergency Relief International (CERI) to tackle this pandemic through a donation of $15,000.
Our financial contribution is being used to fund CERI’s family support program that provides life-saving services such as food, case management, health services, access to education, and clothing to orphaned children and those suffering from HIV/AIDS. Approximately 50 South African families will benefit from these services for an entire year, helping them overcome their hardships and thrive.
In 2019 alone, an estimated 70,000 South Africans aged 15 to 24 were diagnosed HIV positive. A cure or vaccine has yet to be established, leaving patients and their loved ones feeling lost or ignored as the world narrows its focus on the impact of coronavirus.
Western is proud to be a part of this incredible cause.
“We believe in the mission of CERI whole-heartedly – working to improve patient care and serve communities in need just as we do here at Western,” said Brian Lund, Chief Operating Officer at Western Healthcare. “Our hope is that CERI can continue providing relief to families affected by the pandemic with our donation. If the money betters the lives of just one family in a big way, it is well spent.”
